October 2023 Favorites!

Hey, hey, hey!  It’s the last day of November, and I haven’t even posted my OCTOBER favorites yet!  What?  I know!  What happens anyway?  It’s like as soon as October hits, somebody starts spinning the hands of the clock faster.  Right?  Anyway, I actually started this post earlier this month, but then other stuff got in the way. So here we are…once again catching up.  Well, come on, let’s do it!

Early in October, Big Eagle traded in his F-250 for a GMC Denali.

Here he is driving off in his F250 to get his new truck!

And here he is back home with his new truck!  A GMC Sierra Denali!

I never did get comfortable driving the 250, but this new truck is a little smaller, and I’m fine with driving it.  So I’m glad for the change.  Now when we go on trips and take the truck, I can help with the driving!

As I’ve stated before on this blog, I’m a fan of Tanner the Planter on Instagram. I’ve been wanting to visit his shop, Famous in Oregon, in Prosper, TX.  Big Eagle and I chose a day to make the drive up there the first week in October.  I had ordered plants during the previous Monday’s live sale and told them that I would pick them up in store, rather than having them shipped to me.  Since it’s a rather long drive (about 80 minutes) we also decided to stop in at Nebraska Furniture Mart, which is also on the northern side of the metroplex, and browse.

The store met all of my expectations!  Unfortunately, neither Tanner or Erika were there, but the employees who were there were very helpful.  I ended up buying an extra plant (and she’s a beauty!), a pot, and some We the Wild Grow juice.

The two plants I bought on the live sale, plus the Etta Rose (on the left in the white pot).

I’m really happy to have visited the shop in person, and now I’ve decided that the shipping costs on the live sale are well worth the extra cost.  Don’t think we’ll be making that drive again unless there’s something we’re going for that’s in the same vicinity.

I’ve shown these schoolhouse lilies before, but here they are one last time.

Loved enjoying them so much this season, and I’ve been so happy with how much they multiplied this year!

On October 12th at Orangetheory Fitness, I participated in the signature workout “Catch Me If You Can”.  While I DID get caught, I made it further than I ever have before, so I set a new personal record at 1.33 miles as a power walker.

Me with the group I worked out with that morning
I made the list of most improved!  Whew!

Big Eagle and I had a goal of dining al fresco at one of our newest fave restaurants, Quince, located on the Trinity Trail in Ft. Worth.  We made reservations for Saturday, October 14th.  As we were walking from our car to the restaurant, there was a pretty strong chilly wind blowing.  Enough to make my eyes tear.  So, although we were hoping to eat outside, I made a last minute decision to stay inside as long as there was availability.  Thankfully, there was!

On our previous visit, we decided it would be fun to just get the charcuterie board and drinks for the next time, so we did stick to that part of our plan.

At Quince

Forgot to take a picture when it was first delivered to the table, but here it is about 2/3 of the way through. All so good!

Eating here al fresco will remain on our wish list for the time being.  We WILL be back!

And now here we go back to Orangetheory!  The 500-meter row benchmark was on October 17th.  I was happy to be able to get my personal best on this day, too!

And second in my age group!  Don’t know what’s going on, but God is being good to me!

This was the real highlight of the month!  Big Eagle and I drove to Louisiana to spend a few days with our granddaughters and their parents.  Helen was performing in a youth theater production of Sweeney Todd, and of course, we wanted to attend!

We arrived late Wednesday afternoon on the 18th, and attended the play the next evening.  Helen was part of the chorus, but she also played the young Lucy, so that was really neat to see!

No pictures were allowed in the performance, but this display was in the lobby as we entered.  The blue arrow in the bottom right points to Helen.

Here’s a closer shot of her picture on the display.

Very interesting play.  Definitely fit the time of year leading up to Halloween.  I was so impressed because the difficulty level of the songs was pretty high, and they did a great job with it!

The next night was Friday night football!  Even though Helen is only in 8th grade, she was invited to participate in the high school marching band this year, and she’s been a very busy girl!  This night was homecoming, though, and the band stayed in the end zone stands providing background music for the Homecoming Court presentation.  But I did snap a pic of father and daughter in the stands:

The next day we attended the Abita Fall Festival.  Helen was unable to come with us because she had two performances of the Sweeney Todd play that day: a matinee and an evening performance.  So it was Big Eagle, me, Paul, Edith, and Edith’s friend Clara.  And Cara was there in between chauffeuring Helen to where she needed to be and taking her food.

Entering the festival!

Edith watches as her friend Clara gets her face painted.

Now it’s Edith’s turn!

Here they are back at our spot in front of the music. Faces painted and suckers in their mouths. Happy girls!

Yay! Cara caught up with us!

Paul made a new friend!

Before we left, Edith had to pay a visit to the petting zoo and cuddle with a few of her favorites!

Such a fun day, and such a fun trip!  We left for home early the next morning.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again…there’s nothing I love more than time with family!

And here we go again to Orangetheory!  Wow!  In this post you see how big a part of my life this place is!  Hell Week at OTF began on October 24th.  If you complete 4 of the 8 workouts, you receive the Hell Week Shirt.

Well, heck yeah…I’m doing that!

Day 1 of Hell Week. Big group! Do you see me?

Day 2 of Hell Week

90-Minute Hell Week workout on the 29th

So I don’t have pictures from all of my Hell Week workouts (aren’t you happy?), but I did earn the coveted Hell Week shirt:

A real favorite!

Every Halloween, one of my favorite things to see is my grandkids in costume!

Edith as Princess Mononoke, Paul as Bigfoot, and Helen as Barbie

Helen with her haul!

And Edith with hers!

Of course we LOVED seeing this guy dressed up for his very first Halloween!

Danny and adorable Leo!

Oh, my!  I’ve really enjoyed looking back at October, albeit late!  Hopefully, you’ll see me back here in a day or two with my November favorites.  Time rolls on, folks…time rolls on.
