That’s right! I’m posting a seasonal bucket list. Haven’t done this since 2019 best I can tell. Here’s the thing. I feel like I’m just pretty much sliding through the days with no real direction. There are things I think I SHOULD do, things I think I NEED to do…but basically, none of them are getting done. Part of me says, “Hey, I’m retired. I’ve earned the right to do what I want.” But the better part of me says, “Hey! You’re wasting your days away! Get with the program!”
I created this bucket list a couple of weeks ago, and at first I thought I would post it, but then I thought, no one cares…I’ll just do it without posting. Okay, so I’ve done a couple of them, but I’m now feeling that I need something to push me to be accountable and keep moving forward. That’s what I’m hoping creating this post will do!
So here you have it…my Fall 2023 bucket list:
Health & Fitness
- Decide on a new pair of eyeglasses and order them. (I’ve had these same pair of glasses for at least four or more years now. They’re heavy on my face, and I’ve been wanting to replace them, but I’ve been spending my money on contacts and neglecting replacing my glasses.)
2. Find a bike ride to register for (Haven’t ridden my bike in over a year. I feel bad just seeing it sit idly in the garage. Now that the weather has cooled off, I should start riding again. If I register for an organized ride, I figure it will give me the motivation to ride in order to get ready.)
Joy
- Really get started on redecorating the addition. (We’ve been talking about doing this for at least two years now. It’s time to just do it.)
2. Complete the wardrobe challenge from The Well Dressed Life. (I did this a few years ago and was very happy with the result. It’s a 4-week challenge, and I think this week was the fourth, but I’m giving myself the whole fall to complete it.)
3. Work on the flower beds regularly. (I’m thinking to shoot for an hour a day 5 days a week.)
4. Make a trip to Prosper to shop at Famous in Oregon. (I’ve been following Tanner the Planter and Famous in Oregon on Instagram and watching his weekly live sales. I WANT to see this store!)
5. Hang at least 3 new things on the walls. (I am horrible when it comes to wall decor. I’ve improved slightly in the past few years, but not enough. I don’t know why I have a hard time with this, but it’s something I want to get over.)
Learning & Growth
- Practice my fiddle daily (This is a do-or-die last ditch effort here. I’ve been paying for online fiddle lessons, but haven’t been signing on and practicing them much at all. If I’m not successful with it this time, I will probably sell my fiddle.)
2. Create and follow a morning schedule that suits my needs. (#1 under this category is not going to happen unless I make a place for it in my daily schedule. So this is kind of a follow-up to that. Funny thing…I saw this was also on my bucket list 4 years ago. 🙄)
Relationships
- Dine al fresco with Big Eagle at Quince
So there it is! Wow…looks like I need a lot of joy in my life! Ha! That category has the most items.
As I said earlier…I’m sure no one cares about my stupid list. I even feel a little stupid posting it. There’s just too much else going on in the world right now that deserves our attention so much more. We can pray. We can give what we can. But we also must continue to live. And live as fully as we can. So…this post.
Putting your list out there makes it more real and more likely to do those items. You are an inspiration!
I’ve been thinking about putting up those wall grids in various rooms for wall decorations, so that I can change it up quickly and easily.
I’m going to have to look into that wardrobe challenge! Mine is early American Attic and needs some serious refreshing!
You play the fiddle?! Jacqui played the banjo, she is/was really good at it. Mom left me a few harmonicas and “how to” books. Perhaps I’ll have to check that out. Joining an organized bike ride sounds fun. Our Ski club does a like of biking, a fun group activity.
As for morning routine, I made a checklist of things to do each morning with little fill in circles for the 7 days of the week. (things like bible study, feed the cat, check the weather, load of laundry, meal plan) I print it off, have some fill in the blanks for short term goals & add to do items to the blank areas along with projects and next action. It takes it off your mind and puts it on paper so you feel accountable. I try to follow the principles of David Allen “Getting Things Done”
Enjoying your posts. Good for you to keep them going!
Love you cuz. Tweety
Gale, thanks for sharing your list. IF I put my list to paper, a few of your to-dos would be on mine too – I’ve been wanting new glasses for a few years now. I’ve been wearing the same style for 10-15 years. I should thin out my closet. I probably wear less than 10% of what’s in there. (Reminding myself of that is a great deterrent to shopping-most of the time.) And the flower garden is a work in progress that I enjoy. I do have a couple of things I want to get done before the holidays. We’ll see…….
