This is the first time I’ve participated in the What’s Up Wednesday link-up hosted by Sheaffer and Shay on the last Wednesday of every month. It’s a post about a bunch of little things that are going on in our lives currently and sounds like a fun one to try! So without further ado…
What I’m eating:
With peaches being in season, I’ve been picking up a few every time I’m at the grocery store. So I’m eating peaches. And a couple of nights ago I made this salad that I discovered 5 years ago. All of the flavors go so well together. I try to make it at least once each summer while the peaches are good.
I didn’t snap a photo when we had it Sunday night, so this picture is from the newspaper clipping I have. It’s called Arugula, Peach and Goat Cheese Salad with Peach-Chile Vinaigrette. So good!
We’re also enjoying these slow-roasted plum tomatoes from our garden. The slow roasting really concentrates the flavor. I love to eat them warmed up in the microwave. I just slip the skin off each one as I devour them. It slides right off.
And besides the slow-roasted plum tomatoes, we’re just in general eating tomatoes! Practically with every meal!
When you get a crop like we’ve had this year, you live and breathe tomatoes! And this is as they’re winding down. You can see the trays aren’t completely full any more like they were for weeks.
What I’m reminiscing about:
My daughter Cara and her family are visiting Paul’s parents in Massachusetts right now. While they’ve been gone, I’ve often found myself thinking back over the past few months that they’ve spent with us and reminiscing about the various moments we’ve had together. There are the birthday celebrations, the Momma Strong workouts with Cara, gardening together, playing badminton, watching the girls play dress-up, all of us gathering on the patio just before the winds started blowing and a big storm approached, everybody pitching in to clean up after the huge fallen tree limb, playing Ticket to Ride on repeat, mid-morning chats with Cara over my second cup of coffee, walks and bike rides together, being scared out of my wits by the girls sneaking up on me, reading Paul’s STRAVA commentaries about his daily walks, Cara trimming my bangs for me, teaching Helen to use the sewing machine, and so much more! Even just hanging out and watching TV together like we were doing in this picture:
What I’m loving:
I’m typing this on Tuesday to have it ready to post on Wednesday, and I’m loving the rain we’re having right now! We haven’t had a good soaking downpour like this in quite a while, so it’s very welcome!
What we’ve been up to:
Social distancing and wearing our masks whenever we need to go out for groceries. Boring, I know, but it is what it is. 🤷♀️
What I’m dreading:
Can’t say I’m dreading anything right now.
What I’m working on:
Cleaning up my closet! When the Bovets came back to the U.S., a lot of things got dumped in there. And it’s just been progressively getting worse. It’s to the point I can’t stand it. So I’m working on it a little at a time.
What I’m excited about:
My son Danny and his wife Erin have been in New Zealand since mid-February. They’ve been working on being able to travel to Lithuania where Erin is to begin a teaching job. It looks like everything is in order, and they are supposed to board their flight on Thursday! I’m praying they have smooth travels, and I’m excited for them to finally arrive in Vilnius on Sunday!
What I’m watching/reading:
Big Eagle and I are watching Ken Burns: Country Music. We missed it when it aired several months back, so now we’re working our way through the Netflix DVDs. Last night we finished the 5th of the 8 episodes.
And I’m reading this:
What I’m listening to:
The sound of the rain and thunder that’s happening outside right now!
What I’m wearing:
Well, right now I’m wearing the same drab clothes I put on to do housework this morning. But this month with the temperatures so hot, I’ve loved wearing simple casual dresses like these:
They’re so easy to just throw on, and they’re SOOOOOO comfortable!
What I’m doing this weekend:
Don’t really have anything planned. I’m hoping we get to talk to Danny and Erin before the weekend is over and hear about their experience getting to Lithuania. I could see where it might not be until after the weekend, though. They’ll probably be exhausted once they get there.
What I’m looking forward to next month:
I’m looking forward to seeing Cara, Paul, and the girls again. Although we’ll be keeping our distance from each other once more, it will be nice to see them and have them here for a bit longer before they move on to Houston.
And even though we won’t be together to help them celebrate, I’m also looking forward to Danny and Erin’s FIRST wedding anniversary! And then about a week later, Danny’s birthday!
What else is new?
It was great to have a good talk with my Aunt Dorothy on the phone yesterday. She’s 97 years old and my mom’s last living sibling. I have fond memories of visiting her and my Uncle Dale and my cousins at their farm when I was a kid. I’m so glad she’s doing well.
So, a fun little post! What’s up with YOU this Wednesday? What would your response be to some of these prompts? I’d love to know! Feel free to comment below, and have a great Wednesday!
