I know in many people’s minds, summer is finished. School has started, and routines are falling into place. But we are actually only 2/3 of the way through summer. And that’s a good thing for me, because I still have season bucket list items to complete. Here’s where I stand on completing my list.
I completely missed the update I was supposed to do one month into the summer. The first 2/3 of the season have really been a whirlwind for me! It seemed like it was one thing after another with the most intense part of the RAGBRAI training, my daughter and granddaughters visiting, the actual RAGBRAI week itself, my son’s wedding, and 3 days of an outpatient medical procedure, followed by 3 days of recovery and then a follow-up appointment. I’m just now feeling that I have some time to breathe! I’ve loved every minute of it, though.
The Update
Health and Fitness:
1. Complete the Orangetheory Fitness 50-Workout Challenge
I finished 27 workouts when I realized (on July 16th) that the only way I could complete the 50 workouts by the deadline was if I doubled up on a few days. With RAGBRAI approaching and the wedding a week after that, there was no other way. But when I asked at the studio if that was allowable, the answer was no. So at that point I stopped working so hard toward it. Up until then, I even did 5 a.m. workouts, so I could fit them in along with my bike training and still have the rest of the day to spend with my granddaughters while they were here.
Now THIS is precious! Little 9-year-old Helen decided I had worked so hard that I should get a shirt anyway. (I forgot to mention that you get a shirt for completing the 50 workouts.) So here I am modeling the shirt that she and her sister Edie made for me.
In my opinion, it’s WAY better than any shirt I would have been rewarded with by OTF! And yet, this is a bucket list item I had to kiss good-bye. What a great way to soften the blow!
2. Complete the Whole Week of RAGBRAI
This one is done! I managed to cycle the whole 427 miles over the 7 days of the ride. I blogged a separate post for each day after returning home. If you missed those posts and are interested in reading about it, you can click here to read the first one.
Joy
1. Complete List of Activities w/Granddaughters
I’m going to call this one successful. There was one item out of 11 that we didn’t do. That was the roller rink. We’ll have to put it back on the list for next time they visit.
Helen was so cute when she did my nails (one of the items on the list). She filled a bowl with water and added green food coloring. Then she and Edie went outside and collected rocks to put in the bottom of the bowl. Helen wanted it to be like at a real salon, so she had me soak my nails in the bowl before filing and painting them.
Here she’s getting me ready to have my nails painted.
We were supposed to go to different playgrounds according to our list, but we only made it to one. Unless you count the ones at Dairy Queen and Chik-fil-A. Here’s Edie at the one city park we visited.
2. Attend my Son’s Wedding
It was such a glorious event! This one is complete, and the bride and groom are now on their honeymoon.
A post covering the wedding weekend is forthcoming!
Learning & Growth
So far this summer I have not learned or grown at all! Actually that’s not true. I learn something daily. However, I have not completed either of these items yet. And the sad thing is, both of these are holdovers from my Spring list. Yikes!
1. Pick Back Up w/My Fiddle Lessons
2. Complete My New Bible Study
It’s a good thing there’s another month left of summer and things have calmed down for me right now. It’s time to learn and grow in this last third of the season!
Relationships
1. Take a Cooking Class w/Big Eagle
We haven’t done this yet, but we ARE registered for the class. It is scheduled for September 7th!
2. Plan a Get Together w/Friends at Least Once a Month
I did plan a lunch out with a couple of friends in June, but one of them came down with pneumonia. So we cancelled it until another time. July was just way too busy, so this one was overlooked that month. August isn’t over yet, so although I have nothing on the calendar yet, a get-together is still possible this month.
That’s the scoop on my Summer Bucket List for now. Hoping by the time autumn officially arrives, I’ll have a few more checked off.
How’s your summer been going? Do you feel like it’s over? The heat we’re having here would say it’s not!
