September 2024 Favorites!

Things around here have been VERY busy lately, but I really wanted to get this post in since we’re already two weeks past September!  And just a note here that, of course, not everything throughout the month is hunky-dory (there’s an old term for you!), but I like to remember those that are, even amongst those that aren’t, and they are the ones I prefer to highlight in these particular posts.

Going to try to go pretty quick here, since time is of the essence right now!

RAIN!  Since it had been many weeks since we had had any, it was such a welcome sight!

Wow!  Was I surprised when I received this Beatles Revolver album in the mail from my brother Jack for my birthday!  I put it on the turntable and listened to it right away!

When we were in Vegas back in June, he and I had talked about what Beatle albums I had, and I told him how I didn’t know what had ever happened to the Revolver album, but I didn’t have it any more.  Talk about thoughtful!

What a treat on my birthday to receive a text of this picture of my only grandson Leo enjoying himself!

Such a precious boy!

I think it’s been two years now that I’d been wanting to have dinner al fresco at Quince in Fort Worth.  That finally happened for us on my birthday!  We were celebrating both of our birthdays, since Big Eagle’s is just one day before mine.  It was gorgeous weather, and we enjoyed watching the activity on the Trinity Trail as we dined.

To me, the second best thing to BEING with family is seeing other family members being with each other.  So it made me really happy when my brother Steve texted me this picture of him with my sister Judy helping her celebrate her birthday!

Two firsts for me on September 14th:  Doing a Strength 50 class at Orangetheory Fitness and taking a class at Orangetheory in Southwest Fort Worth.  Since we’ll be living in that area soon, and our Burleson studio is closing, I will be seeing a lot more of the SWFW studio in the future!

How is this girl already in high school and celebrating homecoming?  I don’t know!  But she IS!  And here she is with her friend Anna ready to go to the big event!

FAVORITE #8

One of the perks of turning 70 is that I’m the youngest in a new age group!  HA!  Makes it easier to get that first ranking in your age group…sometimes the ONLY ranking!

This is not a great number (1835), but hey…I’ll take what I can get!

FAVORITE #9

One of my favorite restaurants is Pappadeaux!  Unfortunately, they have gone up so much in their prices that we had decided we would not be going any more.  But when my daughter and her husband sent us an e-gift card…oh, yeah!  Time to throw caution to the wind!  We thoroughly enjoyed another birthday dinner later in the month!  I don’t exactly remember the names of the dishes we ordered, but they were delicious, and here are the pictures:

Big Eagle’s dish…He’s not a big rice fan, so he had already scraped half of his rice onto my plate. I love it!

My dish…it may sound crazy, but the spinach at Pappadeaux’s is the BEST! I scarfed it down first!

On the 19th we drove to Louisiana so we could celebrate our last Grandparents’ Day with Edie at her school.  Next year she will go to junior high, and there will be no more Grandparents’ Day at school.  We couldn’t miss it!

Enjoying school breakfast with Edie…the public school version of beignets.

Grandpa enjoying his “delicious” school breakfast. 😂

So proud of how hard Cara works to support the girls’ schools!

A few other things we were able to enjoy with the Bovet family while we were there.

Edie and Paul playing ping pong in the garage
Helen, on the left, marching into the stadium Friday night with the band. Flutes. Western night.

Helen marching out with the band at the end of the game. No mask…we get to see that beautiful smile! 🥰

Edie made pancakes for the first time on our last morning there, and she did a GREAT job! Chef’s kiss!
Last minute picture with Cara before we got in the car to head back home.

I was so happy to receive this picture in a text from my sister Susan.  This is my brother Tom’s son and daughter, and I haven’t seen them in ages.  I was so sorry to not be able to attend by brother’s memorial service, but I’m so glad they were there and able to connect with other family members.

I saw this keepsake that another grandmother had, and I took a picture of it to share with Danny and Erin.  Hint, hint…something like this would be a great gift!  But even if it doesn’t come to fruition, it’s still a great idea, and I love it!  So it’s a favorite!

I know…I’m shameless. What can I say?

So there’s September!  Little did I know what was awaiting us for October.  These first couple of weeks have been tough, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Would love for you to let me know how things are going with you!  Maybe you have some favorites from WAY back in September that you would like to share!
