Yes, it’s well past mid-November, but we’ve been without internet for over a month. It was just finally installed today, so to celebrate, I am FINALLY putting up my favorites for October! Granted, most of October our noses were to the grindstone trying to prepare for our move, so not a lot of time to stop and smell the roses, so to speak. But there are always moments to be grateful for, and those are worth sharing!

Every year at the beginning of October, it’s time to put together this super simple treat to enjoy throughout the month…
HALLOWEEN MIX! I’ve probably shared this before, but it’s a yearly favorite, so it shows up again and again. My friend Lynn introduced me to this back when we were teaching together. It just uses equal parts of these three ingredients:
The combination of chocolatey, sweet, and salty makes the perfect handful to nosh on!

Since our move was only a couple of weeks away, our daughter Cara and our granddaughters Helen and Edith came for one last visit at the only house they’d ever visited their grandparents in throughout their lives. Cara and Helen helped Big Eagle get the attic cleared out. There were actually a few things she took home with her! We tried to do some of the traditional things we’ve always done when they’re here.
The girls on the back patio swing one last time. I know I have pictures from previous years, but not taking the time to search right now. Will have to do that another time.
So many games played in this dining area around this table and the one that was here previously. This time while they were here, we were playing Azul. I’m pretty sure this activity will carry over to our new place.
Smores were always on the agenda when the grandkids visited, so we for sure had to do that one last time! My, these girls have grown so much since the first time we did Smores here!

We had to have our refrigerator unplugged 2 days before the move, so we unplugged it Wednesday morning, the 16th, and I gave it a thorough cleaning. This is the cleanest our refrigerator has been since we bought it, so for me, it was a favorite to see it so clean!

Things were pretty tense on the afternoon of closing. We had the movers scheduled to unload on Saturday morning, but it was taking F-O-R-E-V-E-R on Friday afternoon for the funding to come through for us to be able to move in! We were sweating that we may have to store our stuff on the truck all weekend, stay in a hotel, and wait some more on Monday for funding. Thankfully, LATE Friday afternoon we were given the keys to our new home. So it was a REAL favorite to be able to see this truck show up on Saturday morning.
Another HUGE favorite was the help that our friends Lynn and Mike gave us Friday night with things we needed to move in on our own. We are so grateful for them!

I think we must have slept in late the first morning in our new home, but on Monday morning, I got up early and was mesmerized by this sunrise I saw from our back patio!
Granted, once the other homes are built in around us, this view won’t be the same, but we can enjoy it for now. 🥰

That same Monday morning, we had a company out to measure for blinds. They were installed on the last day of the month, and having them up was a favorite for sure!
So those were my October favorites! Overall it was a pretty stressful month in more ways than one, but I think we always need to focus as much as possible on the things we are grateful for.
If you have anything you’d like to share, I hope you’ll do so in the comments below. And I hope you have a great rest of the weekend!
Oh, my gosh!! Nothing is ever easy. I was holding my breath all the way through this post. Just wanted to see that you were settled in your new home. Made me sad to see the pictures of and to think about the last time the girls would sit on the porch swing, or roast marshmallows or play games in your old house. But it will be fun to start those traditions in your new home and to create new traditions, too. I don’t envy you the move. I just hate moving. But I know our time is coming sooner rather than later. This is just way to much house for us. I just hope we can hold off until we are ready for an assisted living situation.
Hope you will give us a grand tour when you get everything unpacked. XO
On Sundays I like to read the devotionals posted by Tania Stephens on her blog. Coincidentally, yesterday’s was about moving. I thought of you, and all the emotions you must have felt during the move – sentiment in remembering past times, letting go of all the stuff, nervous anticipation about the new place. Nerve-racking & exhausting! Now you get to enjoy the new place. Best wishes for lots more memory-making fun!
WOW October was a vey busy month, Packing and moving First was disposing of all the stuff we would not be able to take to our new house. First many loads of donated stuff to Goodwill. Second Many loads of stuff to Habitat for Humanity Resale store. Third lots of furniture to Salvation army. Fourth we were able to sell a few things. Fifth we gave a way lots of stuff. And then lastly we loaded a 20 yard roll off dumpster FULL. We also had a mobile shredder come to the house to shred what we could not shred ouselves. Finally we closed on both the old house and the new house(the same day) and the movers deliverd our stuff the3 next day. Gale did a great job on deciding what furniture to keep and it came out perfect. Then we had to unpack and get ready for a trip that began on November 1. WE MADE IT! I am tired just writing this.
Catching up on your blogs from a busy summer and now a lazy winter. Nice blog on your move. So stressful and so glad it is now behind you. Good memories were made and new memories to make.
