New Year’s Resolutions 2021!

Having a whole new year stretched out ahead of me has inspired me to make a few resolutions!  Some years I make only one resolution, and some years I make none.  This year I feel the need.  They’re nothing earth-shattering, but they are goals that I think will improve my daily life.

Resolution #1

I want to read more in 2021.  At the end of last year, I had only read 28 books.  I said then that I wanted to read more in 2020.  You would think with all of the staying at home we had to do that reading more would be a given.  Well, think again, because this year I read LESS than I did last year.  😒  I’m telling you now that it’s going to be different in 2021.  I hope to at least double my number from this year.

Resolution #2

This one kind of goes along with the first one, but when I put it on my list I wasn’t thinking of it as just reading another book.  My second resolution is that I want to read all of the Bible.  I’m 66 years old, and I’ve never read the whole Bible.  I’ve attempted it before, but never made it very far.  All those lists of names and relations had me giving up before I much got started.

Big Eagle gave me a new Bible for Christmas.  In the back of it there are two different plans for reading the Bible.  One takes a year, and the other takes three years.  On January 1st, I started the one that takes a year.  I figure if I want to read the whole Bible before I die, I’d better start with the short plan first!  Then hopefully I’ll still be alive, and I can start the 3-year plan and digest everything a little better.

Resolution #3

This one is about this blog.  Since I began it, I haven’t done anything really to improve the design of my blog.  I think it could definitely use some improvements, so I want to work some on that.  Also, the frequency of my posting has gone way down.  I mean, I’ve pretty much gotten down to posting once a month.  At that rate, what’s the point?  So I also intend to post more often.  I would say at least twice a week is what I’m aiming for at this point.

Resolution #4

I hereby resolve to go through every drawer, cabinet, and closet in our house before the end of 2021.  When my sisters and I went through my mom’s things after she died, it was a bit of a wake up call.  All three of us said we needed to go through our own stuff.  That was over a year and a half ago, and I still haven’t done it.   It’s amazing how fast we accumulate things.  We end up having things we forget we even had!  At least that’s my situation.  So by writing this one down and posting it here, I will hopefully be more compelled to carry it out.

Resolution #5

I have never considered myself to be very good at home decor.  Maybe that’s why when I get an idea for a wall-hanging or some kind of decorating arrangement, I’m so slow to act on it.  Who am I kidding?…The fact is I rarely DO act on it.  So my goal this year is to take action on the decorating ideas I’ve had on the back burner for so long and any new ones that take form in my little brain.  If I bring at least one to fruition each month of the year, I’ll consider myself successful on this one.  I’m not talking big makeover here.  Just a wall-hanging here, a new accent there…simple stuff.  Should be doable, right?

Resolution #6

Last, but not least…(oh, and btw, even though these resolutions are numbered, they’re not really in any particular order)…it’s another thing I want to be better about taking action on.  I’m really bad about thinking about things I want to do with or for others, but not following through.  And just like the decorating, they’re not hard things or big things; they’re just simple things like taking something to a neighbor, or sending someone a letter or email.  Sounds like it all comes down to procrastination, doesn’t it?  I’m certainly guilty of that!  So my goal will be to follow through on at least one of these ideas each week of 2021.

That’s it: my six resolutions!  Now to hold myself accountable, I’m going to revisit each of these goals at the beginning of each month and take stock.  I may post about how it’s going at some point, too.

So how about you?  I know a lot of people never make New Years resolutions.  Which side of the fence are YOU on?  If you’ve made any for this new year, maybe you’d be willing to share them in the comments.  If you haven’t, but you think you’d like to, here’s a clean sheet of paper to get started on:

Whether you make resolutions or not, though, I hope 2021 brings you many blessings and happiness!

😃 HAPPY NEW YEAR! 😃
