Wow! March FLEW by, and now April is already doing the same! We’re already a week and a half into April, and I’m just now posting my March Favorites. I’ll probably turn around, and it’ll be time to post my April Favorites. So let’s hurry, and look back at my highlights from March!

At the end of my February Favorites, I left off with us in Louisiana visiting Cara, Paul, and the girls. The main reason for our visit was to see Edith compete in her school’s district fitness meet. Now I’m picking up from where I left off.
The last day of February was a Thursday, the day we arrived. On Friday, March 1st, Edith’s school had Cultural Arts Day, and Cara had asked if I could volunteer to help. Of course, I wanted to! I helped by leading classes in playing Cultural Bingo. It was a blast, but I didn’t get any pictures. However, I did get a picture of the afternoon assembly. The guest performers were the Mardi Gras Indians.
There was A LOT of hype leading up to this assembly. I have to say the most impressive thing to me about the Mardi Gras Indians is that they make their own costumes, and use thousands of beads in their handiwork. Other than that, for me, the assembly was underwhelming, especially after all the hype leading up to it.
What was more exciting was going to get ice cream at Flying Dolly’s with Cara and the girls after school! I mean…who doesn’t get excited about ice cream? 😋The tables were tiny, so Edie, Big Eagle, and I sat at one table, and Cara and Helen sat at another.
All happy faces!
The next day was the District Fitness Meet. There was concern that rain would mess with the event, but although we had to bring towels to dry off our section of bleachers, it turned out to be a perfect day for the meet! Yay! And we were all so proud of Edith’s performance!
She was third in pull-ups for the girls!
She came in second for girls in the Shuttle Run!
And…OMG…she was Second Overall Girl!
The first and second girls and boys continue on to the State Fitness Meet! Edith will be moving on to the state competition! Talk about busting our buttons! We are so proud of her!
And also her school’s team was the 3rd Overall Team!
This was a huge reversal from last year, when Edith got a fracture in her foot the day before the competition! I imagine she was pretty thrilled to make her coach happy this year! And it’s the last year she is able to participate, as only 4th & 5th graders are involved. Or it may be an age thing, but regardless, she won’t be able to compete again next year.

One week into March the white irises were gracing us with their beauty!

March was a busy month at Orangetheory Fitness! On March 7 they had the 12-minute Tread for Distance Benchmark Challenge. I managed a personal best! Granted it was only a .01 improvement, but hey…I’ll take it!
Then on March 15th, there was their signature workout Orange Everest. Orange Everest is a treadmill workout where you start at a 2% incline and increase 1% per minute up to a 15% incline, at which point you begin to decline 2% per minute until 23 minutes have passed. Any incline of 10% or higher is pretty tough for me, but again…I obtained a personal best! This time a more substantial one. Yay!
Three days later was the 1-mile Treadmill. Runners do the 1 mile, power walkers do a half mile. I am a power walker. Yet again, another personal record!
That’s Shelby, our coach, behind my left shoulder. Love her!
Finally, on March 27th, we did the Strength in Numbers workout during which you do a 14-minute row. Since it was my first time to do this particular workout, it was an automatic PR. Sweet! But not only that…I was first in my age group! What?!
Praise be to God!

My violin bow was needing a rehair, so I went in to a local music store here in Burleson for help, and they recommended a luthier in White Settlement. So on March 8th, I took my bow to them. The reviews online were excellent, but also mentioned that you can expect it to take some time for them to complete the work because they are that popular and thorough. For that reason, while I was there, I bought a second bow, so I would still be able to keep up with my practice while my original bow was waiting to be rehaired. Boy, am I glad I did! They said it would be at least 2 1/2 weeks, and at the end of the month, it still was not ready.
I think my original bow is a carbon fiber, but this new one is rosewood. I know this is silly, but I’m just going to say it. I feel like by owning two bows, that shows that I am now a more serious violinist. Or a violinist wanna-be. Ha!

On March 15th I received plants that I had ordered on the previous Monday night live sale conducted by Famous In Oregon! I ordered a mystery box, so no idea what I was going to receive!
I was actually quite happy with the plants I received! From L to R in the back: Irish Spider Plant (not sure what makes it Irish), Peperomia Pixie Arenal, and Tillandsia Curly Slim. And I have to say I’ve never been a big fan of succulents, but how could I resist these two teeny-tiny minis? Right? I would say out of the bunch, the only one I would not have ordered on my own is the spider plant, but I’m still happy overall with their selection for me.
And then, two weeks later, they had a fairly small fiddle leaf fig on their live sale, and I was lucky enough to snag one. Since it was small, it was a lower price than you might spend on a fiddle leaf fig, and I’m excited to watch it grow!
Isn’t she pretty?

On the 18th of the month, our favorite grandson turned 11 months old!
Oh, how Leo has changed in these past 11 months! It’s been such a joy to see! Now in less than a month, he’ll be a ONE-YEAR-OLD! It hardly seems possible!

I spent the afternoon of the last day of the month clearing the weeds from our sugar snap peas.
They looked so good once I was done! And Big Eagle revamped our trellises to be more sturdy. Now that the weeding was done, I could put the trellises in place for them (especially the row furthest from the fence) to climb.
If you look close, you can see that they’re already climbing! They did really well in this part of the garden in 2020, so I’m expecting big things from them this year!

At the beginning of March the white irises were blooming. On the last day of March, the purple bearded irises were showing signs of bringing us their blooms in April!
Something beautiful to look forward to!
So…a late March Favorites, but there it is! Would love to hear highlights from YOUR March, too! If you would like to share, please do so in the comment section. Have a great rest of the week!
Another GREAT month in the books!
Big congrats to Edie! I wish her continued success at the State meet. And congrats to you on your PRs. OT certainly keeps you motivated. Way to go!
Congrats to Edie!
Pull ups?!?!
I’m already exhausted
What a great month!! So enjoyed catching up with you but now I have questions. When are you going to see that baby boy again??? Gale, he is just darling. Could not be cuter. I know you must be dying to hold him again.
The girls have grown so much. Congratulations to Edith for her accomplishments. Hope she will find something similar in middle school to enjoy. I’m sorry the cultural presentation was a bit of a disappointment. With all the emphasis on preparing for the test…THE TEST…the kids have little time to enjoy learning. I would hope those extra special experiences and activities would be fabulous for them. I subbed for a kinder teacher last month and she had left some cute projects for the kids to do. I was so glad and so were the kids. She came by the classroom at the end of the day to see how we did and I thanked her for having engaging, fun lessons and activities. She said that the kids only got to have fun when there was a sub. IN KINDER!! Isn’t that terrible?
Bravo to you for your Orangetheory accomplishments. I see where Edith gets her ahtletic abilities. You rocked that challenge!! Great job.
Your garden looks fabulous. I am thinking maybe this is the 3rd or 4th year of your garden space. Maybe mistaken but I thought I remember Big Eagle first digging up the space a few years ago. I bought some raised beds and have struggled to get anything to grow. This year decided to go with herbs. My sage is coming up. Hope everything else will.
And your plants are so unique. I love succulents but can kill them just as easily as I can the fussier plants. That curly skinny plant is super cute. Hope they thrive and bring you much happiness.
Wow, so much to be grateful for. Health, grandkids and gardening. You are one busy woman. Congrats to Edith on her win. Her grandmother is a good influence! Just last week Chris and I were discussing the material that made a violin bow, what a coincidence! I was thinking about you and your family when the bad weather blew through recently. Love your posts!
