The second Wednesday of the month is the day I link up with Erika and Shay for their Let’s Look series. Let me tell you, this one through me for a loop! Hence the question marks on the graphic above. I had no idea what they meant by “Love Language”, so I did what we all do when we want information…I Googled it. And dang! Guess I’ve been living under a rock!
Please tell me there are others out there that are wondering about this, too! If there is, even if there’s just one other person out there who is unsure what is meant by the question, “What is your love language?”, then you’re in the right place. I will share my findings with you!
Background
My research took me back to 1992, when a man named Gary Chapman wrote and had published his book called The Five Love Languages: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate.
It turns out he now has a SERIES of love language books. There is a singles edition, an edition for teenagers, one for children, one for men, and so on. A total of 11 in the series. So yeah, this is nothing new. It’s been around for almost 30 years. T-H-I-R-T-Y! So why have I not heard of it? Maybe I have, but I just didn’t pay attention. IDK. Just goes to show that there’s always something more to be learned.
The Break-down
I won’t go into this too deep, since evidently most people are already aware. But how you receive love from others is called your love language. And according to Mr. Chapman, there are five of them.
One: Words of Affirmation This is when your partner says supportive things to you.
Two: Acts of Service Your partner does helpful things for you.
Three: Receiving Gifts Your partner gives you gifts that let you know they were thinking of you.
Four: Quality Time Your partner spends meaningful time with you.
Five: Physical Touch Your partner stays in close proximity to you and touches you in kind/loving ways.
How to Know YOUR Love Language
Well, you take a quiz, of course! I took the Couple’s Quiz, and here are my results:
As you can see, my main love language is physical touch. This makes sense because I love it when Big Eagle gives me a hug. Or little public displays of affection like putting his arm around me or holding my hand.
Next is words of affirmation. This too is right, because it makes me happy to hear him say that I look nice or that I did a good job with something.
I do like it when he does acts of service, but a lot of times I start feeling guilty. Like thinking I probably should have been able to get whatever it was done on my own. Especially if it’s household chores that normally fall to me. Now if I have a legitimate reason for not being able to do them, like being sick or something, then I truly appreciate him taking care of them when I couldn’t.
Gifts are not that big of a deal for me. When he gives them to me, it can be hit or miss, unless I have let him know specifically what it is that I would like to receive. We rarely give each other unexpected gifts. If he were to bring me flowers (never happens), I might get suspicious! Ha!
Now, the quality time…I contend that if you take the quiz at different stages of your life, it’s highly likely you will come up with different results. For instance, with this pandemic going on, Big Eagle is working from home. We are together pretty much 24/7. In the non-pandemic world, he might be away from the house for a day, or he might travel and be gone overnight one or more nights. I think if I took the quiz under those circumstances, the quality time would probably rank a lot higher.
Are you ready to take the quiz?
There are four quizzes at the site where I took my quiz: one for couples, one for children, one for teens, and one for singles. Click here to check it out and take the quiz for yourself!
Want to read more about it?
If you are the one person out there like me that had never heard of this before (or forgot you’d ever heard about it), then you might like to read more. Here is a site that had not only good information, but also a very entertaining Danpan video. The video is a little over 15 minutes long, but I’m telling you I literally laughed out loud at several spots! Click here to read more, and if you just want to see the video, still click, but scroll down to the bottom of that post for the video.

I love it when I learn new things! Now I need to get Big Eagle to take the quiz, so I know how to give him ALL the love! 💏🤟💋💕
I would also love to know what YOU think about all of this! Please share in the comments. And let me know if you take the quiz, and if you don’t mind sharing your results, that would be fun, too! I’d also like to know if you watched the video or not, and if so, if you thought it was as entertaining as I did. And don’t forget…love is all you need!
