Looking back at June today and highlighting the people and things that made me happy. Gosh it went by fast!

Early in the month on June 3rd we celebrated Cara’s birthday.
She’s not a big cake fan, so Helen and I made Rice Krispies treats with sprinkles on top instead. How is it possible that my youngest is the big 4-0?

Paul, Cara, and the girls left the next day to spend a couple of weeks in Houston. While they were down there, I received a text with this picture, and I had to smile. 😄
Our property is cursed with burrs during the hot, dry months. While Edie was out with the family for a walk down in Houston, she saw burrs growing out of a crack in the cement, and she picked a burr bouquet for me. 😆

My favorite Bible passage that I read during June:
For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named,
That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man;
That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;
And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
(Ephesians 3: 14 – 19)

Most of the take-out we’ve been having during the pandemic has been pizza. So it was a really nice change when our son Danny gave Big Eagle a nicer take-out meal in honor of Father’s Day. He actually bought the dinner for both of us, so I benefited from Father’s Day, too! Tee hee. 😉
Big Eagle had the Pomme Frites.
I had the Shrimp Po’boy, and it was delicious!
And we each had a Hot Chocolate Shake Cake. Yep…not worried about calories when it’s a Father’s Day celebration! Thank you, Danny and Erin! 😘

I looked it up…National Pickle Month is July. Also, according to the Chinese zodiac cycle, this is the year of the Rat. But at our house, June was Pickle Month, and 2020 is the year of the Pickle!
Right there you see 140 quart jars of pickles…all canned in June! And that doesn’t include the 4 or 5 jars we already ate. If you read about my pickle dilemma in this post, then you know I am overjoyed to have my pantry restocked with pickles. I have to admit, though, that I went out on Nextdoor to give away my last 3 or 4 cucumber harvests. I had just gotten to the point that I didn’t want to can even one more jar of pickles. WHEW!

I’ve said before how much I’ve loved having my daughter and her family staying here since late March. And I’ve said how much I’ve enjoyed the perks we’ve received from them being here. Well, here’s another one. Before they left for Houston, Paul and Cara weeded and cleaned up the flower bed outside the addition, and Paul put in some plantings. Since then, we’ve added mulch, and it looks SO MUCH BETTER!
Thanks, Paul and Cara!

It always makes me happy to receive a call or text from my son Danny and his wife Erin. And if a picture is included, that’s even better. They’re still in New Zealand making their way around the country. Danny sent me this picture of Erin from June 27th:
They were enjoying a nice bike ride in New Plymouth, New Zealand. I love all the pink blossoms and pink petals on the ground. And Erin looks great as always, too! 😍

Our tomatoes have been AMAZING this year! We eat as many as we can and share the rest with friends and neighbors. One of my favorite ways to eat them is a BLT!
Oh, my YUM!

Another happy dance went on here for yet another benefit of having the Bovets in residence! On the last Sunday of the month, Big Eagle and I were planning on having a simple dinner of salad. Yet, lo and behold, Cara made homemade chicken soup, and Paul made homemade bread! And they were sharing! So we still enjoyed our salad, but it was way better with the addition from the addition!

The last day of June was a Tuesday. Cara had kept track, and it was also the 100th day that the Bovet family had lived in the addition. So Cara made a celebration for the girls by having a balloon-themed party in the little pool she and Paul had set up in the back yard.
She had come up with all kinds of cute games for the girls to play with the various balloons. They had a great time! The pandemic is a bummer, but there are ways to rise above. Kudos to Cara! 🥰
So those were highlights from my June. It FLEW by, and July is doing the same! Maybe you’d like to look back at what your June was like. If you do, and you find something you’d like to share, I’d love for you to do it in the comment section below. Gosh! At this rate it’s going to be fall before we know it!
