January/February 2025 Favorites!

I decided I needed to get this post up before the weekend was over.  I mean, we’re already into the second week of March, so the February Favorites need to be expressed!  And it’s a two for one this time, since I never did get my January Favorites posted.  I’ve been such a slacker in that regard, but it’s time for that to end!

JANUARY FAVORITES!

FAVORITE #1

I spent some time appreciating a couple of my plants during the month. First off, this calathea!  I had moved my plants away from the windowsills onto tables a little further away from the windows, because of the freezing temperatures.  This particular afternoon, while I was sitting near the window, the way the sun was shining on this calathea really brought out the contrast of the green edging on the pink leaf.

Especially on the new leaf unfurling in the center!  It just made me happy on that freezing winter day!

I’ve had the Christmas cactus I was given by my mother for over 25 years!  When we moved here, we kept it outside until it was too cold for it out there.  Then we brought it in and put it on a plant stand near the window in our bedroom.  It bloomed beautifully this year, albeit late!

Such beautiful blooms!

We’ve been getting more involved in our new community, and one of the activities we tried for the first time in January was the Tuesday night Bunco!  It was a lot of fun, and I was so impressed by how organized everything was!

It’s one that we will be attending every month!  We also attend the Euchre game twice a month, and we went as observers to the pickleball tournament that was held in January.  There are also other activities we’ve been attending fairly regularly.  We’ve really enjoyed getting to know all of our new neighbors!

The end of the month was SO COLD!  Cara had made chicken tortilla soup in the crockpot a couple of times when we were visiting them, so I asked her for the recipe.  This was a perfect time to make it!

SO GOOD!

Near the end of January, we attended the Fort Worth Stock Show.  We mainly went to see our friends’ granddaughter show her sheep.  Neither one of us had seen such an event before, and I feel like I learned a lot!

If you get through to the right of the red gate, your sheep has moved on to the next round of judging.  Our friends’ granddaughter made it through there, and her sheep is being weighed in this picture.  When we left the sheep arena, we had lunch outside, and while we ate, we watched horses being loaded into a huge trailer.  Then we went through the exhibit hall, and we actually bought a bed!  Yes…of all things…a bed!  We bought a few other things as well, but…a bed.  How many people can say they went to a stock show and bought a bed? 🙋‍♀️

FEBRUARY FAVORITES!

It seems like lately I haven’t taken nearly as many pictures as I normally do.  I don’t know why.  But we went to our friends’ house for the Super Bowl game, and had such a great time!  Lynn and Mike are such great friends, and normally I’m not into Super Bowl stuff, but this night it was a lot of fun!  No pictures, though…go figure.

I’d been looking at this lighted plant stand on Amazon for a while, and I finally took the plunge.  I was thinking I would put it in the corner of our living room, but once it was there, it didn’t give me the feeling I thought it would.  So…I moved it to the side of our dining room window.  Perfect!

I liked it so much, I ordered another one to put on the other side of the dining room windows to balance everything out!

Mid-month we drove to Louisiana to watch our granddaughter Helen perform in a Winter Guard competition.  Again…I didn’t take many pictures, but I do have a couple to share.

We drove there on Valentine’s Friday, and the competition was the next day.  The morning of the competition, I had showered and was drying my hair, when Helen came in and asked me if I wanted to put on my makeup with her.  An invitation like that from your 14-year-old-soon-to-be-15 granddaughter you don’t turn down!  We had great conversation while putting on our makeup!  I was done way sooner than her.  She had a lot of hair stuff and makeup layers to go through to be ready for her performance.  I love this girl so much!

I didn’t take any pictures at the competition.  I just enjoyed it all!

Edie had spent time doing her makeup, too, later that afternoon before we left for the competition.  I took this picture of her in the way back of the car while we were on our way to it.

🥰

As usual, it was a short visit.  We were on the road to home the next morning.

Technology is a wonderful thing!  The next weekend we were able to watch Edie compete at the state swim meet on our television via YouTube!

She competed all three days and was in the finals two of those days!  Go, Edie!

Every year on this blog I have posted pictures of my daffodils blooming in February.  Not this year.  I’m sure they’re blooming, but we are no longer there to enjoy them.  However, a couple of years ago, I dug up several of the bulbs, and took them to Cara in Louisiana.  She sent me this picture of them starting to bloom this year!

So even though I’m not at our old place to see my daffodils bloom, these are also my daffodils, and it really makes me happy to see them blooming!  Definitely a favorite! 😁

There you have it!  My favorites from the first two months of the year!  I probably missed a few here and there, but these are the ones that stand out to me.  Along with video chats with my son and his family and other things we’ve been involved with in our community and people we’ve met.

I’m looking forward to what March will bring!  We have a wedding to go to, and that means we will see many dear family members!  Should be a great month!

I would love to know how the year has started off for you!  Please feel free to share in the comment section below, and I’ll do my best to respond! 😘
