January 2021 Favorites!

How is it that we’re already beginning the SECOND week of February?  I remember at the beginning of January feeling like I just knew the month was going to c-r-a-w-l.  But guess what…it didn’t!  And now February is flying by even faster.  I also remember feeling like January was going to be hum-drum, and I would have no favorites at the end of the month.  Wrong again!

Favorite #1

I received the onion slips that I ordered!

They look good, don’t they? 😁  Since the weather was not conducive to working in the garden, I spread them out to breathe while they were waiting for their big day.

The most favorite thing about the onions was that I DID get them in the ground before the end of the month.  Yay!

Favorite #2

Two days after receiving the onions in the mail, it SNOWED!

BIG old flakes!  We don’t get a lot of snow in the winter, but if we’re lucky, we see it once or twice during the season.  Some years we don’t get any.  The best thing about snow here is that it doesn’t usually hang around too long.  So it’s fun for one day to enjoy, and then it’s back to business as usual.  Here’s my new short-term buddy and me!

Favorite #3

I think more often than not, I have flowers as one of my monthly favorites.  These sure helped to cheer me up when January skies were gray!

Favorite #4

I got a phone call in the second week of January from Cara asking if I could come down and stay with the girls on the weekend, so she and Paul could go scope out some of the neighborhoods in the area they plan to move to.  Spending time with my granddaughters is ALWAYS a favorite!

We went for a walk a few times while I was there.  On the first one, I found this HUGE leaf on the ground!  I have never seen a leaf this size I don’t think.  You can see here that it’s as big as Edie’s head!

That Saturday we walked to the park, and we were very happy to see no one else on the playground AND it wasn’t taped off either.  YAY!

Helen wanted me to take a picture of her leaning backwards on the swing and letting her hair hang down.  Of course I obliged!

Favorite #5

Edie’s tooth was SUPER wiggly that weekend.  I was SURE it was going to come out while I was there, but nope!  However, I did get a FaceTime call eight days after I got home and saw this:

This event is for sure a January favorite!  It had finally fallen out, and here she is with her two gold dollar coins from the tooth fairy!  Before Christmas, we thought she would be singing, “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth.”  Then I was sure it was coming out during my visit.  That tooth hung in there a L-O-N-G time.  And, yes…the other one is wiggly, too.  I’m not even going to attempt to predict when it will come out.

Favorite #6

And finally my favorite pictures from January that were sent from Lithuania.  We had that one day of snow, but Danny and Erin are REALLY getting the long-lasting kind in Vilnius.  They actually went disc golfing in it one weekend!  I love this picture of Danny throwing his disc with the color of his disc and the rim of the basket contrasting against the white of the snow:

They’ve also done a good bit of cross country skiing.  Here’s a picture of Erin doing just that near the end of the month:

So January turned out to be a great month for us, despite my ominous feelings at its start!  I hope you had some favorite moments, too, that you can share in the comments.  Or comment on any other subject matter you have on your mind.

It’s been fairly mild weather here so far in February, but we’re predicted to get colder again starting tomorrow and onward for several days.  So I hope you’re able to stay warm wherever you are, and enjoy the rest of your Monday!
