Fall 2019 Bucket List

Keeping true to form, I’m here about a week late with my final report on my Summer Bucket List and the reveal of my Fall Bucket List.  I’m going to blame these sweltering temperatures we’re still having here in the D/FW area.  How is one to focus on Fall when it still feels like the middle of Summer?  One focuses by putting her head down and plowing through it.  So let’s start by summarizing how I did with my last bucket list.

Final Update on Summer 2019 Bucket List

Health & Fitness:

  1.  Complete the 50-Workout Challenge at my Orangetheory Fitness Studio.  As I reported about a month ago, I completed 27 workouts when I realized I would not be able to finish by August 24th as required.  I was willing to do two workouts per day for a few days in order to accomplish the goal, but the studio would not allow that.  So this item was a bust.
  2. Complete the full week of RAGBRAI.  This was a highlight of my summer, and I did accomplish this goal!  I wrote a blog post for each day of the 7-day ride.  If you missed those and would like to learn more about it, you can read the first one by clicking here.

Joy:

  1.  Complete the list of activities my granddaughters and I created to do while we were together this summer.  We did all of them except go to a roller skating rink, so I consider this one completed for the most part.
  2. Attend my son’s wedding in Alaska.  While RAGBRAI was a highlight of my summer, Danny and Erin’s wedding was THE highlight of my summer.  The blog post about the wedding is here.

Learning & Growth:

  1.  Return to my fiddle lessons.  I am thoroughly disgusted with myself over this one.  Still haven’t picked up my fiddle.  I do want to continue with my lessons, but I will not be putting this one back on the bucket list.  This is already the second time it’s been on my bucket list, and it’s just too embarrassing to have to again say I neglected to do it.
  2. Decide on and complete a new Bible study.  I have been working through The Art of Listening Prayer by Seth Barnes.  I’m only about halfway through.  So while I didn’t completely finish this bucket list item, at least I’m working on it, and I do intend to finish it.

Relationships:

  1. Attend a cooking class with Big Eagle.  We did this one, and it was fun!  If you didn’t read the post about it and would like to, you can click here.
  2. Plan a get-together with friends at least once a month.  The one I planned in June fell through.  The only other one I can say I had was my book club early in September.  So this item sadly did not get accomplished.

To summarize…out of 8 bucket list items, I would call five of them accomplished.  I guess that’s not too bad.  It’s definitely more than I would have done if I hadn’t planned any of these things.

NOW, on to my Fall bucket list!  It’s so much more exciting at the beginning of the season, because all the possibilities are ahead of you.

Fall 2019 Bucket List

Health & Fitness:

  1. This first one may be a little personal, but if you’re a female, it’s something we all should be doing.  Sometime in October I need to schedule my annual mammogram.
  2. Once again an Orangetheory Fitness challenge is on my bucket list.  Hell Week is held during the last week of October.  The challenge is to finish at least 5 classes within that week, and you earn a tank top or t-shirt.  I also want to complete every 90-minute class that my schedule allows throughout the fall.
  3. Establish a weekday routine.  I don’t want this to be an all-day routine.  But I want a routine to start off my day, and I want it to include a few things that I want to accomplish on a daily basis.

Joy:

  1. Create my gallery wall.  This one was on my spring bucket list, but I didn’t get it done.  I feel like I’m ready to revisit it now.
  2. Decorate for fall.  So far I’ve gotten the decorations down from the attic.  I’ve bought the pumpkins, but they’re just sitting in the garage right now.  It’s time to set it all out along with Halloween decorations seeing as how tomorrow is October 1st.
  3. Complete our interior update on our house.  This is the biggie this season.  It involves having the popcorn ceiling removed from two bedrooms and four closets.  One of those bedrooms will also have wallpaper removed.  Then we have to paint the ceilings, walls, doors, and woodwork the same colors as we did last spring on all of the other parts of the house.
  4. Spread bluebonnet seeds.  This is the time of year to do this in order to have them bloom next spring.  We have part of our property that is pretty much unused where I want to do this.  The joy will come next spring if the seeds germinate like I’m hoping they will.

Learning & Growth:

  1. Educate myself about improving my blog.  Not quite sure yet how I’m going to go about this, but I have a few ideas rolling around in my head.  I’m certainly open to any advice, too!
  2. Submit applications for a seasonal job.  I think I want to do this.  I have no travel plans until next spring except for 4 days in October.  There also is no company coming to stay at our house that I’m aware of until after Christmas.  So why not?  Wasn’t sure what category to put this one in, but seemed to fit here best.

Relationships:

  1. Attend a high school or college football game with Big Eagle.  We haven’t done this since the kids were in high school.  Big Eagle has, but we haven’t done it together.
  2. Host some kind of holiday get together.

That’s it!  I think my fall bucket list is actually more ambitious than my summer one was.  But I’m excited about all of it!

What things are you hoping to accomplish this fall?  Maybe some of your items are similar to mine.  Does it even feel like fall yet where you are?  I’m not a fan of cold weather, but it sure would be nice if our high was about 10 degrees lower than it is lately.  Wish me luck on my new seasonal bucket list!  And good luck to you with whatever goals you have for the autumn!
