Woke up Friday morning feeling refreshed! Friday and Saturday were sea days as the ship would sail through the Beagle Channel and then across the Drake Passage to get to Antarctica.
Breakfast:
Big Eagle and I had breakfast with Danny and Sam in the main restaurant called The Yacht Club. These two had worked together in Alaska. Sam officiated Danny and Erin’s wedding in 2019. I think it’s pretty cool that they now are working together on the Scenic Eclipse!
As we were eating breakfast, the ship started to sail, leaving the city of Ushuaia behind us. I took a picture through the window as we were pulling away.
Activities for Friday:
Even though we were having sea days, there was still plenty to do aboard the ship. Each day we can look over the planned events on the television in our cabin. Here is what was listed for Friday morning and Friday afternoon:
Welcome Aboard!
At 9:30 we made sure we were in the theater for this presentation. But not before stopping in the restaurant on board called Azure. Danny had told us the Azure made the best coffee on the ship, so we went there to have a cup. The picture below shows the coffee bar at the Azure. Pretty impressive!
After coffee, we headed to the theater. It is top-notch! The seats are super comfy with drink holders and the ability to recline, just like in a movie theater.
Before the presentation started, I noticed that the Discovery Team had assembled themselves at the back of the theater. The Discovery Team consists of all of the people on the expedition team.
The Entertainment Team began the presentation. Here they are introducing Danny:
And here’s Danny speaking. During his talk, he had the Discovery Team come down from the back to join him on the stage. Each one introduced themselves to the passengers and told a little bit about their backgrounds and their specializations. After that, Danny talked about what we could expect during the course of our journey.
We also attended the helicopter/submarine briefing and the kayaking/SUP briefing. I love that they let you know exactly what to expect during these expeditions and what they require from the passengers.
After Danny’s presentation, Big Eagle and I went to the lounge/reception area where Big Eagle ordered a hot chocolate.
A Little Bump in the Road (or Riding the Swells)
After lunch, we went back to the theater for the IAATO/Zodiac briefing. At that point, I was down for the count. Despite wearing half of a patch to prevent motion sickness, it had grabbed a hold of me. The only thing I found to relieve the nausea was to lay down in the bed. I also put on the other half of the patch and waited for it to kick in. Big Eagle and Danny went to dinner without me that night. Our butler was very kind to bring me ginger ale and some crackers and fruit. Around 11:30 that night, I was finally able to eat some of it. The motion sickness persisted until around 3:00 Saturday afternoon. I guess it took that long for the patch to get me to recovery.
Saturday Afternoon/Evening
Since I felt so much better, I was able to join Big Eagle in attending a couple of information sessions. Later that evening after Danny gave his 6:30 briefing in the theater, the three of us enjoyed dinner together at the French restaurant on board…Lumiere. They served an 8-course dinner that we enjoyed very much. After the fifth course and before we were served the entre, the waiter brought this:
And he said, “Apple sorbet to refresh and cleanse the palate for the main course.” Fancy, huh? Looks like a popsicle to me! I didn’t take a picture of our entrees, but I did take one of dessert. We each had the smaller one, and we shared two creme brulees. It was all so delicious!
I was so happy to be feeling better. Everyone was looking forward to the next day, since we would be arriving in Antarctica!
Dwight’s friends Gary and Sheila Limmroth were on the same cruise last week! They loved Danny!! See if he remembers them.
Food looks amazing. Hope you don’t get sick again. The place looks beautiful !! Proud of my nephew !!
The Scenic Eclipse looks gorgeous! So happy you are finally getting to cruise with Danny! Ihopeyoudon’t have any more problems with seasickness. The best is yet to come from all of the stories I have heard! Enjoy!
Oh, my, I am so sorry you were seasick. Do you have trouble with motion sickness in cars and airplanes? I am curious if I might, too, be plagued. I can get motion sick in a car on a windy road. Thankful you weren’t sick for long.
My poor palate has never been cleansed! Interesting that they brought you that sorbet to do the trick. Sounds like you were well pampered.
